Sky News descended into chaos as one news correspondent was caught up in a terrifying clash between protesters and US immigration officers as tear gas was hurled into the crowd. Sky reporter Martha Kelner was outside the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building in Minneapolis - home to a local branch of Homeland Security.

The clash broke out after a federal officer shot a man in the leg after being attacked with a shovel and the handle of a broom - and after the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good. Kelner was trying her best to report on the scene, but was left coughing as more capsules of tear gas were shot into the crowd.

Armed ICE agents wearing gas masks and goggles were seen moving through the crowd as Kelner said: "The police officers... trying to establish a bigger perimeter outside the federal building... you can hear some flash bangs going off...

"There's tear gas too, and people panicking trying to get away from the tear gas.

"They're firing tear gas... a massive load of tear gas coming out," she tried to say, but was cut off by wheezing - despite her own mask.

She managed to say: "Apologies... that tear gas really, really catching in the throats of everyone here. We're going to move now and get the proper gas masks on."

Others in the crowd were coughing and struggling for breath as Kelner added: "As you can see, a scene of utter, utter chaos here. People protesting, police pushing back and using these crowd disbursement techniques to do so."

Around 3,000 federal agents are currently stationed in Minneapolis making arrests, including more than 2,000 ICE agents.

Others include Border Patrol agents and representatives from Justice Department agencies.
