Michael Carrick faces a whirlwind first month as Manchester United's interim head coach. He will not only have to familiarise himself with the squad he has inherited from Ruben Amorim, but also navigate potential player departures and arrivals during the bustling January transfer window.
Despite the club's intention to stick with their current squad this month, the rumour mill continues to churn out speculation about possible transfers involving the Red Devils. Carrick's primary objective is to steer United towards an optimal Premier League finish this season, but there are issues that may need addressing to avoid future pitfalls.
Here's a round-up of the latest transfer news involving United...
Bruno makes exit decisionClub captain Bruno Fernandes is reportedly not seeking an exit from United this month. The Portuguese star has been linked with several Saudi clubs recently, including Al-Ittihad, Al-Nassr and Al Hilal.
There have also been suggestions that Fernandes is contemplating his future at United following Amorim's dismissal.
The midfielder was seen meeting with Carlos Fernandes, a member of Amorim's former coaching staff, sparking fears that he might be considering a move away from Old Trafford.
However, fresh reports from BBC Sport have claimed that Fernandes remains dedicated to his responsibilities at United for the remainder of the campaign.
It is believed he will evaluate his future in the summer when he enters the final 12 months of his Old Trafford deal.
Transfer gets green light According to Sky Sports, Juventus have received the 'green light' from Luciano Spalletti to pursue Crystal Palace striker and reported United target Jean-Philippe Mateta.
The Italian giants are reportedly seeking a long-term replacement for Dusan Vlahovic, whose current contract expires this summer.
United are understood to maintain a sustained interest in Mateta, who has accumulated eight Premier League strikes in 21 appearances for Palace this term.
Should Juventus intensify talks for Mateta, it could prompt other suitors to accelerate their pursuit of his signature.
This could consequently force United to finally join the chase for the striker, or risk losing the opportunity to secure his services for Old Trafford.
United currently possess several attacking options, with Benjamin Sesko spearheading the attack, supported by Matheus Cunha.
The latter can also function as a number nine but has moved into an attacking midfield position this season.
According to reports, Palace will demand approximately £30million to sanction Mateta's departure this month, though this valuation could increase depending on the level of interest.
