For which it is necessary to have an IRCTC account and it is also necessary to have Aadhaar card linked in the account. If your IRCTC account is not linked to Aadhaar, you may face problems during ticket booking. How to link IRCTC account to Aadhar


According to the new rule of Railways, now only those people whose account is verified with Aadhaar will be able to book tickets in the first 15 minutes of online ticket booking. Passengers with Aadhaar linked accounts will get the facility to book general reserved tickets from 8 am to 12 midnight on the first day of the advance reservation period.


Steps to link Aadhaar with IRCTC account:


For this, first of all go to the official website of IRCTC (https://www.irctc.co.in/nget/train) Or login to the mobile app. After login, go to My Account section and select Authenticate User or Link Your Aadhaar option. After this you will have to enter your Aadhaar number or Virtual ID (VID). After filling the Aadhaar details, click on Verify Details and enter the OTP sent on the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar. After OTP verification, your account will be successfully linked to Aadhaar. After linking, a Green Tick will appear near your username, indicating that your account is verified.


Before booking tickets, ensure that your IRCTC account is active, you have Aadhaar card and mobile number linked to it and your IRCTC profile information (Name, DOB, Gender) matches with Aadhaar records. Once Aadhaar is linked, you can avoid any hassle during ticket booking and ensure easy travel.


Railways has made Aadhaar verification mandatory to make its booking system more secure. This rule has come into effect from 1 October 2025.
