Anyone who's experienced a long-haul flight knows all too well the discomfort of being in the air for prolonged periods.

One of the most vexing aspects of flying is having an inconsiderate passenger behind you, incessantly kicking your seat - especially when you're trying to get some sleep.

However, one seasoned traveller has shared their ingenious trick to avoid this annoyance and ensure a more peaceful journey on your next flight.

This somewhat unconventional advice involves purposely shunning what's usually considered the 'prime' seat on a plane, and instead opting for a different spot.

Writing for escape.com.au, John Burfitt shared he consistently books the 'worst' seat available when flying.

That specific seat is the window position at the very back of the plane, right next to the toilets. While some flyers might be put off by being close to where other passengers relieve themselves, fearing unpleasant smells, John insists it can actually be the most serene spot on board.

He recalled how, after enduring relentless kicks from the passenger seated behind him on one particular flight, he vowed never to tolerate such discomfort again.

Towards the end of that journey, whilst walking down the aisle to visit the lavatory, he experienced a revelation - beyond the back row of seats was merely a wall, which meant that by sitting there, no one could possibly kick his seat, reports the Mirror.

"In that instant, I decided the back row would be the only place I would sit on a long flight from now on," he wrote.

"Sure enough, on my next flight, I booked into the back row of the cabin and, even better, my seat was the one right next to the window. As I nestled into that corner, I discovered what true airline love is about. I had just found the best seat on the plane."

He went on to list the multiple benefits of his chosen spot - including protection from kicks, avoiding trolley impacts, escaping knocks from other passengers moving through the aisle, and having the comfort of resting against the corner wall for a decent sleep. However, the advantages don't end there.

Travel gurus at pipeaway.com propose that opting for rear seats could result in securing an entire row to oneself, as most travellers typically shun the back of the plane. This offers the chance to sprawl out comfortably across two or three seats if desired.

They also highlight that the last row is perfect for passengers wanting to keep away from children, as families are usually assigned bulkhead seating.
