FIFA has received more than 500 million ticket requests for the 2026 World Cup, showing strong global demand for the tournament to be hosted across the United States, Mexico and Canada.
The world football body said fans from outside the three host nations accounted for a large share of applications. The highest number of requests came from Germany, England, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Argentina and Colombia.
Ticket prices have drawn attention, with FIFA asking for up to $8,680 for some matches. After facing criticism, FIFA said last month it will make $60 tickets available for every match to the 48 national football federations taking part. These federations will decide how to distribute the tickets among fans who attended their teams’ previous games.
FIFA said the most requested match during the third sales phase, held from December 11 until Tuesday, was Colombia versus Portugal on June 27 in Miami Gardens, Florida. This was followed by Mexico versus South Korea on June 18 in Guadalajara, the final on July 19 in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the opening match between Mexico and South Africa on June 11 in Mexico City, and a second-round match on July 2 in Toronto.
