The dispute between boxing legend Mary Kom and her husband has now become public. Meanwhile, World Championship medalist boxer Gaurav Bidhuri has appealed to both of them to exercise restraint and adopt the correct procedure. Bidhuri believes that the truth cannot be proved only by media statements and it should be investigated in the court.

Gaurav Bidhuri told ‘IANS’, “Initially there were many rumors that Mary Didi had separated from her husband, Onkholar, who stood by her like a pillar and supported her at every step of her career, as we saw in the film.

We were all confused. Who is right, and who is guilty? But after watching the interview of Mary Kom didi in Lok Adalat, things became clear. Glad that our legend stood up against her husband like Rani Lakshmibai, protested against the wrong and set an example for women by fighting for herself.

The World Championship medalist said, “Yes, Mary Didi is a role model for young girls and boys not just in India but all over the world. These allegations can tarnish her image and set a wrong example for others. Whenever a strong woman is defined, the names of Rani Lakshmibai and Mary Kom come up.

What he achieved, no one in the world has achieved. No one can snatch this from them. Therefore, she is our role model. We want this matter to be resolved as soon as possible, and justice to be served immediately.”

Onkholer has alleged that Mary Kom had an affair with a junior boxer in 2013, which led to disputes between their families, leading to a settlement. After this he alleged that since 2017, 5-time world champion Mary Kom is in a relationship with a man associated with the boxing academy.

However, Bidhuri believes that there is no basis on which any conclusion can be drawn in favor of Mary Kom or her husband. Bidhuri said that Mary Kom is a brilliant athlete and global sports personality, but until the matter goes to court, no correct decision can be taken on the situation.

Gaurav Bidhuri said, “Being a husband and father myself, I deeply feel the pain of cancer. Therefore, I cannot be biased and blindly support my boxing legend Mary Kom didi.

He said, “I believe both of them should be taken to the family court instead of bringing it up on the national media. Both claim they have evidence. Right now, we cannot decide who is right. These are just verbal statements from both sides. Such claims have no value unless they are proven in court. On humanitarian grounds, I cannot support anyone.”

Onkholer and Mary Kom were married in 2005. According to Onkholer, as per the customs and traditions of his society, he has been divorced from Mary Kom, but the matter is yet to go to court.
