Three senior Punjab Police officers, including the DGP, special DGP (cybercrime), and Jalandhar Police Commissioner, have requested an additional 10 days to respond to notices issued by the Delhi Assembly Secretariat.

The notices were served for an alleged breach of the Delhi Assembly's privileges following the registration of an FIR against Delhi Law Minister Kapil Mishra over a video clip related to AAP leader Atishi.

Delhi Speaker Vijender Gupta had directed the officers to submit their replies within 48 hours, condemning the Punjab Police's actions as unfortunate and detrimental to the dignity of the House. The FIR, lodged by the Jalandhar Police Commissionerate, accused Mishra and others of circulating an edited and doctored video purportedly showing Atishi insulting Guru Tegh Bahadur during a November assembly debate on a government programme commemorating the Sikh guru's 350th martyrdom anniversary.

Sources in the Assembly Secretariat confirmed on Monday that the Punjab officers have now sought the 10-day extension to furnish their responses. Gupta stated that any further action against the officers would be determined only after reviewing their replies. The Delhi Assembly has also demanded submission of all related documents and forensic reports that formed the basis for Punjab Police's claim that the video was manipulated.

The controversy escalated when Mishra and several BJP MLAs used the video clip-described as the property of the Delhi Assembly-to level allegations against Atishi. Speaker Gupta criticised the Punjab Police for utilising the footage in the FIR, asserting that such actions undermined the authority and prestige of the legislative body.

Gupta further condemned the AAP-led Punjab government for allegedly misusing state police machinery in the matter. The Delhi Assembly maintains that the video in question belongs to its official records, and any unauthorised use or action based on it constitutes a serious privilege violation, prompting the privilege breach notices against the Punjab officers.
