The icy winds coming from the high peaks of the Himalayas have engulfed North India in severe cold. The temperature in states like Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan has gone much below normal. According to the Meteorological Department, a new western disturbance may become active from January 15, due to which snowfall will increase in the hilly areas and the effect of cold may intensify in the plains. The next few days are likely to be challenging for North India. Due to the effect of cold winds coming from the Himalayan region and western disturbance, the cold wave has intensified in the plains. Due to decrease in wind speed and increase in humidity, dense fog has formed. Visibility has been limited to 50 meters in many areas of Delhi, UP and Haryana.
