Worship method and rules
- This fast should be started in the morning after bathing and wearing clean clothes.
- Start the puja by lighting a lamp in the home temple or in front of Shivling.
- Anoint Shivling with water, milk and Panchamrit.
- After this offer Belpatra, Dhatura and Bhang.
- 'Om Namah Shivay' Chant the mantra at least 108 times and remember the Shiva-Parvati marriage story.
- Avoid onion and garlic on this day and eat simple, wholesome food.
- Donating rice, milk or white items to needy people is considered auspicious.
