New Delhi:Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s new office is now in its final stages and it is likely that he will take charge there on January 14 on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. This new office is part of the state-of-the-art ‘Seva Tirtha’ complex developed under the Central Vista Redevelopment Project, which has been designed with the aim of modernizing and making the country’s administrative system more effective.
The ‘Seva Teerth’ complex has been specially designed for the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Cabinet Secretariat and National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS). Three separate buildings have been built in this complex, so that each sensitive department can function independently and safely. The new PMO building has been named ‘Seva Teerth-1’, while the Cabinet Secretariat is already functioning in ‘Seva Teerth-2’. ‘Seva Tirtha-3’ is being developed as the office of the National Security Advisor and NSCS.
The shifting of the Prime Minister’s Office from South Block is being considered historic. Since independence, till now the PMO has been located in South Block only, but now this arrangement is going to change. The government considers this a big step towards establishing the identity of a new India by moving beyond the colonial heritage. The new office will not only be equipped with modern technology, but the spirit of ‘service’ and ‘duty’ has been given prominence in its architecture.
After the transfer of PMO and other offices, North and South Block will be opened to the general public. There is a plan to develop both these historical buildings as ‘Yug Yugin Bharat Museum’. For this project, a technical cooperation agreement has also been signed with a leading museum development agency of France on 19 December 2024. This museum will show the journey of India from ancient to modern.
The ‘Seva Tirtha’ complex, also known as the Executive Enclave, is being constructed by Larsen & Toubro at a cost of approximately Rs 1,189 crore. This complex is spread over an area of about 2.26 lakh square feet. Along with this, a new official residence for the Prime Minister is also under construction nearby, which is currently being called ‘Executive Enclave Part-2’.
The Central Government is continuously working towards simplifying the administrative work by bringing the ministries spread across Delhi at one place. In this sequence, new Common Central Secretariat (CCS) buildings are being constructed. Many ministries have already shifted to ‘Kartavya Bhawan’, inaugurated in August last year. The government believes that this will make policy decisions faster and governance will become more effective.
