Virat Kohli needed 25 runs to reach this feat. He achieved this target in the 13th over of the Indian innings. By hitting a four on the fifth ball of the over, Kohli took his international runs tally to 28,001. With this, Kohli has become only the third batsman in the world to do so after Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara.
In terms of innings, Kohli has become the fastest batsman to achieve this record. Sachin Tendulkar had played 644 innings to complete 28 thousand runs, whereas Kumar Sangakkara had taken 666 innings for this. Virat Kohli achieved this milestone in just 624 innings.
Not only this, after scoring 42 runs, Virat Kohli also left behind Kumar Sangakkara’s figure of 28,016 international runs. With this, he has also become the second highest run scorer in international cricket.
