Yash Raj Films released the suspenseful teaser for “Mardaani 3” on Monday, the day Rani celebrated 30 years in Hindi film. It sets a sinister and urgent tone as the courageous police officer delves into the violent underworld of a beggar mafia lead by a terrifying adversary portrayed by renowned actor Mallika Prasad.

The clip, which lasts more than three minutes, begins eerily with the words, “In a country that worships goddesses…” flashing across the screen: “Thousands of daughters go missing every week.” The story then switches to Shivani Shivaji Roy, who joins the NIA and is immediately put into a terrifying case involving missing girls without having time to think about the seriousness of the crime.

As Shivani discovers the scope of the horror—93 girls who have disappeared without a trace—what follows is a fierce, action-packed chase. Enraged and determined, she confronts the vicious Amma, doing all in her power to hold those responsible accountable and restore the lives that were taken.

Shaitaan actress Janaki Bodiwala also makes a significant appearance in the Mardaani franchise. Aayush Gupta of The Railway Men is the author of Mardaani 3.

Aditya Chopra is the producer and Abhiraj Minawala is the director of the movie. While Mardaani 2 examined the unsettling mind of a serial rapist who defied the system and Mardaani revealed the harsh realities of human trafficking, Mardaani 3 explores yet another harsh and dark aspect of our society, solidifying the franchise’s tradition of powerful, issue-based narrative.

Rani spoke on Monday about her thirty years in Hindi film and how Mardaani is very meaningful to her. According to her, Shivani Shivaji Roy is a symbol of quiet strength and the ability to convey difficult but uplifting tales.

“I have a specific place in my heart for Mardaani. Shivani Shivaji Roy is a subtle strength rather than a noisy hero. Rani had said, “I learned how powerful it is to tell stories that make people uncomfortable but also hopeful through her.”

On January 30, “Mardaani 3” will be released in theaters throughout the globe.
