Indian IT companies are now moving rapidly towards Agentic AI by moving away from traditional Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions. According to a recent survey, Indian companies are not looking at it as a means to increase efficiency, but as the foundation of future business models. This changing trend gives India a unique identity globally and is important for IT sector professionals and investors.
Technology consulting company Thoughtworks conducted a survey of 3,500 senior executives from seven countries, which included 500 participants from India. According to the report, 48 percent of Indian IT giants have given priority to agentic AI. In contrast, Western markets such as the US and Australia are still focused on traditional efficiency improvements, while India is moving in a new direction.
93 percent of Indian participants in the survey believed that AI has had a major impact on people’s skills and the speed of work. It is noteworthy that 86 percent considered it not as a replacement for talent, but as a means of further enhancing it. This means that AI is being accepted as a helpful technology rather than a job-taking threat in the Indian IT sector.
Agentic AI are autonomous systems that can reason and adapt to circumstances. Its rapid adoption in India means that companies do not want to rely only on productivity tools, but want to move towards AI-based business frameworks. This change is also an important signal to policymakers that AI needs to be looked at not just from the perspective of automation, but from the perspective of innovation and job creation.
IT industry experts believe that this stance of India can give it an edge in global competition. As jobs are being reshaped for human-AI collaboration, new opportunities and responsibilities are emerging. 57 percent of participants reported that working with AI is creating new responsibilities and opportunities.
The Indian IT sector’s confidence in agentic AI shows that in the coming years, companies will not only increase technical efficiency but also develop new business models. This trend can make India a leader in the global AI landscape, and can also become a means of talent development and open new employment opportunities.
