In the Indian Sanatan tradition, Dhruva Sankalp is considered a symbol of unwavering determination, indomitable courage and complete faith in God. This is not just a mythological story, but an inspiration that gives direction to life, which shows that even in the most difficult circumstances, if the determination is strong, then the goal is not impossible. The story of Dhruva, son of King Uttanapada, still gives the message to the people that insults, obstacles and failures cannot stop one’s path, if a man remains steadfast in his purpose.

This resolution of Dhruv, who went to the forest and performed rigorous penance in his childhood, was so impressive that Lord Vishnu himself had to appear and he was blessed with the immortal Dhruv world. This unwavering determination and complete dedication towards the goal is today called ‘Dhruv Sankalp’, which shows the path to confidence, patience and success even in modern life.

Mythology of Dhruva Sankalp

King Uttanpad had two queens, whose names were Suniti and Suruchi. Dhruv was born to Suniti, while Uttam was born to Suruchi. The king loved Suruchi more, so his son Uttam had special rights in the palace.

One day child Dhruv wanted to sit on his father’s lap but Suruchi stopped him. She insulted Dhruva and said that if he wanted to sit in the lap of the king, he would have to be born from my womb in the next life. This word deeply hurt the heart of child Dhruva.

Distressed by the insult, Dhruva went crying to his mother Suniti. Suniti explained to him that justice would not be received from the king or queen, but only from Lord Vishnu. He told Dhruva the path of devotion to God and penance.

Hearing this, only five year old boy Dhruv left home and went to the forest. There he met Maharishi Narad. Narad first tested him and tried to stop him from the difficult path of penance but Dhruva did not waver from his goal. At last Narad preached him the mantra ‘Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevay’.

Dhruva started rigorous penance in Maduvan. With time his penance became so intense that he even gave up food and water. All three worlds started trembling due to his penance. At last Lord Vishnu himself appeared before him.

Dhruva became emotional after seeing God. He had earlier desired for the throne but after having the darshan of God, he started feeling insignificant about his wish. Still, God was pleased with his tenacity and determination and granted him the steadfast and immortal Dhruv Loka, which is known today as Dhruva Tara.
