Pathankot: These days, nature is wreaking havoc in North India. The icy winds coming from the mountains have chilled the plains. Amidst the harsh cold and cold wave, where people are hiding in their homes with heaters on, this time is no less than a big problem for the destitute people who spend the night on the streets. But in these difficult times, a story has emerged from Pathankot, which will not only win your heart, but will also strengthen your faith in humanity.
Raju, who lives on the streets of Pathankot, known as ‘Raju Bhikhari’, has set an example in this bone-chilling cold. Raju has distributed warm blankets among about 500 needy and destitute people. The surprising thing is that this noble deed has not been done by any millionaire or a big NGO, but by a person who himself earns his living by begging. Raju has named it ‘Langar of Blankets’, so that no poor person suffers from the cold at night.
When Raju was asked where he got so much money from, he answered very simply. Raju told that he had deposited this amount by saving Rs. 10 each which he got in alms. He says, “Maybe God has imposed my duty to help others. God makes it happen and I just keep doing it.” There is a strange peace in his words and the glow of selfless service is clearly visible on his face.
This is not the first time that Raju has attracted the attention of the society. Even during the Corona period (COVID-19), when the whole world was at a standstill, Raju was busy serving the people without caring for himself. This same spirit of his was mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself in his radio program ‘Mann Ki Baat’. Today once again Raju has proved that helping requires a big heart and not a pocket.
Raju, who brought warmth to the lives of so many people, still does not have a house of his own. After distributing blankets in the bitter cold, he made a small appeal to the government. Raju says that he has no place of his own to hide his head, if the government gives him a small house, then his life will become a little easier. On this occasion, a local leader of Aam Aadmi Party also arrived, who saluted the work of Raju and said that the rich people of the society should learn from Raju.
