Thalapathy Vijay’s much-anticipated film Jana Nayagan has hit an unexpected roadblock, leaving fans disappointed and the industry watching closely. The Madras High Court has stayed the release of the film until the next hearing scheduled for January 21, leading to an indefinite postponement. The development has generated intense discussion, especially because Jana Nayagan is widely believed to be Vijay’s final film before he formally transitions into active politics. Now, the makers have come forward to explain the sequence of events that led to the delay.

Jana Nayagan producer breaks silence over CBFC row

Amid growing speculation, KVN Productions founder and producer Venkat K. Narayana released a detailed video statement on the production house’s official social media handles. Thanking fans for their patience and unwavering support, Narayana acknowledged the emotional investment audiences already have in the film. He said the overwhelming response over the past few days, in the form of calls and messages, made it clear how deeply Jana Nayagan is anticipated.

Explaining the certification process, Narayana revealed that the film was submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on December 18, 2025. It was subsequently screened by the Examining Committee. According to the producer, the makers received communication on December 22 stating that the film would be granted a U/A 16+ certificate, provided certain changes were made. He added that the team immediately incorporated the suggested modifications and resubmitted the film, confident that the process was nearing completion.

However, the situation took an unexpected turn when the formal certificate was not issued, despite multiple follow-ups. With the planned theatrical release date of January 5, 2026, drawing closer, the makers found themselves in a state of uncertainty. Narayana stated that they were then informed that the film had been referred to the Revising Committee following a complaint. He noted that the identity of the complainant was not disclosed to the production team.

With time running out, the makers approached the Madras High Court for relief. Narayana explained that after hearings held on January 6 and 7, the court initially directed that a U/A 16+ certificate be issued for the film. However, the relief was short-lived, as the CBFC challenged the order soon after. This resulted in an interim stay on the certification, ultimately leading to the postponement of the film’s release.
