Jailed former Punjab Minister and senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikramjit Singh Majithiacurrently lodged at Nabha Jailhas reportedly been placed under heightened security following intelligence inputs indicating a possible threat to his life.

According to official sources, the Punjab Special Director General of Police (Intelligence) has alerted senior police and prison authorities about information received from a central intelligence agency suggesting that Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), a Pakistan-based banned outfit, may be planning to target the Akali leader.

In a confidential communication—now reportedly in the public domain—the Special DGP (Intelligence) has directed all concerned officers to take immediate preventive and precautionary measures to avert any untoward incident. The communication emphasizes the need for heightened vigilance and coordinated action among security agencies.

As per the directive, the AIG (Zonal), Intelligence, Patiala, has been instructed to closely monitor the situation and ensure that any developments are promptly communicated to the Intelligence Headquarters at SAS Nagar.

The alert, dated January 3, 2026was formally addressed to the Special DGP (Security), Punjab, and the ADGP (Prisons), Punjab. Copies of the communication were also forwarded to the Special DGP (Law and Order), ADGP (AGTF), AIG-1 Intelligence, AIG Zonal Intelligence Patiala, and the Staff Officer to the Director General of Police, Punjab.

Security arrangements at Nabha Jail are understood to have been reviewed in light of the intelligence input, though officials have not issued any public statement on specific measures taken.
