K. Lalremruata Dies After Collapsing During A Match: Mizoram’s Ranji Trophy cricketer K. Lalremruta died after falling during a match. The incident occurred during the Khalid Memorial Second Division screening tournament organized by the Cricket Association of Mizoram on Wednesday. After which the Board of Control for Cricket in India appointed former Ranji player of Mizoram K. Expressed grief over the demise of Lalremruta.


BCCI wrote on its domestic X account, ‘Mizoram cricketer K. Deeply saddened by the demise of Lalremruta. He represented Mizoram in the Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. BCCI extends its heartfelt condolences and prayers to his family, friends and the Mizoram cricket community.”


Incident happened during Khalid Memorial Second Division


The incident occurred during the Khalid Memorial Second Division Screening Tournament. Of. Lalremruta was playing as a batsman for VRCC during an official match at Suaka Cricket Ground in Sihamui on Thursday morning. The match was being held against ILMOV Cricket Club. Lalremruta complained of severe chest pain after his batting ended. After some time, he collapsed, which frightened fellow players, officials and spectators. He soon became unconscious. He was immediately taken for medical treatment, but all efforts to save him failed.


In its statement, the Cricket Association of Mizoram said that Lalremrutha suffered a stroke while playing in a second division tournament. The association expressed condolences to his family and said that his death is a big loss for Mizoram cricket.


Played 2 matches in first class career


Lalremruta represented Mizoram in two matches in Ranji Trophy and seven matches in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He also played for several clubs locally. Wicketkeeper Lalremrutha made his first-class debut against Meghalaya in 2018 and played his last match against Nagaland in 2022.



Today all Thursday’s matches were canceled


Following Lalremruta’s death, the association canceled all matches on Thursday and said the matches would be played under a changed schedule. This included matches of the Second Division Screening Tournament at the SCG, Sihamui, the Semi-Finals of the Third Division Screening Tournament at Laevipu Playground, and the overall Inter-School Cricket Tournament for boys and girls at the PUC Ground and MAP Ground at Mualpui.
