Madhubala Controversy: When anger went beyond acting!” Madhubala was given a real slap

Madhubala controversy: Madhubala was one of the most beautiful and famous actresses of the Golden Era of Hindi cinema. Her on-screen chemistry with Dilip Kumar was magical, but their real life love story was equally intense and painful. While fans loved the pairing, their relationship is remembered as one of Bollywood’s most emotional and controversial romances.

But do you know that once, Dilip Kumar allegedly slapped Madhubala in front of everyone on a film set? Everyone was shocked by this incident. Here’s what really happened that day.

Incident to ‘Mughal-e-Azam’

This shocking incident is said to have happened during the shooting of the iconic film Mughal-e-Azam. In one scene, Salim (played by Dilip Kumar) had to slap Anarkali (played by Madhubala).

However, during the shooting, Dilip Kumar reportedly lost his temper and instead of just acting, he actually hit Madhubala hard. As soon as the slap happened, the entire set became silent.

A love story full of passion and pain

Dilip Kumar and Madhubala once loved each other very much. They met on the sets of Tarana in 1951, first became friends and then fell in love. Their relationship soon became the talk of the industry. However, their love story did not have a happy ending. With time, misunderstandings and family interference created distance between them.

Why did they break up?

According to sources, Madhubala’s father, Ataullah Khan, was strongly against her relationship with Dilip Kumar and often interfered in her personal matters. This created tension between the couple and ultimately led to their breakup.

The ‘New Age’ controversy that changed everything

Another major turning point came during the shooting of Naya Daur (1957). Madhubala was initially cast opposite Dilip Kumar, and the unit was to shoot in Gwalior. However, her father forbade her from traveling for outdoor schedules, fearing that her relationship with Dilip would become strained.

When Madhubala could not attend the shooting, producer B.R. Chopra filed a legal case against him. What surprised many people was that Dilip Kumar appeared in the court as a witness. This incident further increased the distance between the two.

working together after a breakup

Despite such bitterness, Dilip Kumar and Madhubala later worked together in Mughal-e-Azam. By then their relationship was over, and emotions were running high.

During the slap scene, Dilip Kumar reportedly could not control his anger and hit Madhubala really hard. It is said that the director had to go to him and calm him down.

revealed in a book

This incident has been mentioned in Khatija Akbar’s book ‘I Want to Live: The Story of Madhubala’. According to the book, the director tried to console Madhubala by telling her that even though their relationship had ended, Dilip Kumar still loved her very much.

However, Madhubala was heartbroken and confused, wondering how the person who claimed to love her could hurt her so badly, even in the name of acting.
