Monalisa, popularly known as the “Mona Lisa of Kumbh,” is playing the lead role in the film. She will be seen opposite actor Abhishek Tripathi, while Amit Rao, elder brother of Bollywood star Rajkummar Rao, and local actor Vishnu Dubey also feature in key roles.
Monalisa arrived directly at the shooting location in Dehradun, where she was given a grand welcome. The film’s co-producer Punjab Singh Majithia greeted her with a bouquet of flowers. Production head Pawan Singh has trained Monalisa extensively, teaching her the nuances of acting to prepare her for this big opportunity.
Overwhelmed by the surroundings, Monalisa praised Uttarakhand’s natural charm. She said, “The air, water, and people here are truly wonderful. The beauty of Uttarakhand has deeply impressed me.”
Monalisa’s rise to fame began at the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, where she was spotted selling garlands. Her striking eyes and unique features drew comparisons to Leonardo da Vinci’s famous painting, earning her the nickname “Mona Lisa of Kumbh.”
Videos of her selling malas quickly went viral on social media, turning her into an overnight star. While she initially enjoyed the attention, the sudden fame also brought challenges, and she eventually left Prayagraj citing safety concerns.
Now, Monalisa’s journey has moved from the mela grounds to the silver screen, making her one of the most talked-about debutantes in Bollywood.
With The Diary of Manipur, Monalisa is set to transform her viral fame into a lasting career in cinema. The film not only marks her debut but also highlights Uttarakhand’s scenic beauty and the cultural richness of Manipuri storytelling.
