Harmanpreet Kaur Reveals Winning Mantra: Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 will start from January 9. World Cup-winning captain Harmanpreet Kaur has the command of Mumbai Indians (MI). The captain believes that his team is quite balanced this season, in which there is no need to make unnecessary changes.

Harmanpreet Kaur told reporters on Wednesday, ‘We love playing together and we also love playing against each other. This season, we are going to play with a positive mindset. The teams are very well balanced. There will be tough competition this season. We will have fun playing. Whenever I go on the field, I tell my team that I want to win the trophy.”

He said, ‘The more you play cricket, the more your confidence increases. The more you play cricket and play on different platforms, the more your confidence grows. There is a lot of competition in WPL where you play good cricket. If you can perform well there, you will face all those players at the international level. When you perform well there against those players, it sticks in everyone’s mind that this player performed very well in the WPL.”

Young talent will get a chance

Harmanpreet Kaur said, ‘Every season we try to bring the best young talent into the team and give them opportunities. This season, we have tried to handpick the best talent available. We chose players who would best fit our team. Hopefully, we will be able to give them a platform to showcase their best performance.”

Captured the WPL title twice

Two-time WPL champions Mumbai Indians have signed the season for 2022/23 and 2024/25, but the captain believes that this increases the responsibility of the player even more. He said, ‘Our mentality always remains the same. We play on any platform. It is not that we have won two trophies and are feeling relaxed. This is another responsibility for us. Everyone knows that this team is capable of winning any tournament. We have to play good cricket this season also.”

The first match will be played between MI vs RCB

Mumbai Indians will play their first match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on January 9 at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. The captain said, ‘Our season is about to start at the DY Patil Stadium. We have played a lot of cricket there. We have also played World Cup matches there. We know what the situation will be like there. There is a very good batting pitch here. The matches remain high-scoring. We have to bat openly. I know this ground will be a bit difficult for the bowlers.”

He said, ‘We have selected a lot of young talent this season. I think whoever gets a chance in the match, that player will do well. Our team is very balanced. We have not made much changes in three years. There is no point in making unnecessary changes in a team which has been giving good results for so many years. We have some young talent this season.
