Japan’s Okayama Prefecture was named the second fastest-growing destination after Vietnam’s Sa Pa, according to digital travel platform Agoda.

Okayama is famous for its stunning Korakuen Garden, one of Japan’s top three landscape gardens, and its association with the Japanese folktale of Momotaro (the Peach Boy). The area is often dubbed the “Land of Sunshine” for producing delicious fruits like white peaches and Muscat grapes, alongside fresh seafood and unique dishes like Barazushi.

It also features historic sites like Okayama Castle and the canals of Kurashiki, making it a blend of nature, legend, and culture.

Bandung (Indonesia) ranked third, followed by Matsuyama (Japan) and Takamatsu (Japan).

“These five destinations stood out as leaders in terms of growth in interest from international travelers,” Agoda said.

To compile the list, it compared accommodation booking data between January to November 2025 to the same period of 2024.

Japan welcomed an estimated 39.06 million foreign visitors from January to November last year, surpassing the previous year’s record of 36.87 million.
