Making a comeback after being away from the court for a long time due to injury, India’s top female shuttler PV Sindhu and the famous men’s doubles pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy started the new season with a win and cleared the first hurdle in the Malaysia Open Super 1000 tournament here on Wednesday.

30-year-old former world champion Sindhu, who had decided to withdraw from all BWF World Tour competitions in October last year to recover from a leg injury, showed her best form on her return and defeated Tsung Shuo Yun of Chinese Taipei 21-14, 22-20 in a 51-minute women’s singles match on court number one of Axiata Arena.



30-year-old Sindhu, ranked 18th in the world, took her record against Sung to 2-0. In the pre-quarterfinals, she will face world number nine Japanese player Tomoka Miyazaki.


Satwik-Chirag spent only 35 minutes on the court


On the other hand, on court number two, world number three Satwik and Chirag pair made their record 7-0 against Yang Po Hsuan and Li Zhe-Hue of Chinese Taipei and entered the pre-quarterfinals with a 21-13 21-15 victory in just 35 minutes. Now they will face Junaidi Arif and Roy King Yap of Malaysia.



The mixed team of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto lost in a tough fight.


But other young Indian players who came on the court on the second day had to face defeat. World No. 17 mixed doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto, after a 56-minute dilemma in the first match of the day on court number three, were eliminated after losing 15-21, 21-18, 15-21 to the American team of Presley Smith and Jenny Guy.


Trisa and Gayatri also struggled for three games


In the women’s doubles, Trisa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand presented a tough challenge to Indonesians Fabriana Dwipuji Kusuma and Melisa Trias Pushpitasari in the fifth match of the day on court number one, but in the end they had to face defeat 9-21, 23-21, 19-21 in a match of 66 minutes. Panda sisters Rutuparna and Shwetaparna also lost to the second-seeded Malaysian pair of Pearly Tan and Thinah Muralitharan 11-21 9-21 in just 30 minutes.
