Calum McFarlane has described Cole Palmer as "ready to go" ahead of this evening's Premier League fixture away at Fulham.

The 23-year-old completed 90 minutes for the first time since September on Sunday evening as Chelsea picked up a hard-fought point against his former club Manchester City. It was just the third time this season Palmer has played a full match, with the England international struggling with a persistent groin injury.

Palmer was in and out of the game at the Etihad Stadium but showed glimpses of his talent when moved more to the right-hand side in the second-half in Manchester. Less than 72 hours later, Chelsea make the much shorter trip to Fulham and there are question marks over whether Palmer can go again so shortly after a gruelling encounter.

McFarlane, who will take charge of his second and final match as Chelsea interim head coach this evening, confirmed that Palmer was assessed on Tuesday but said the England attacker was fine after completing the 90 minutes.

"Cole is in a good place," said McFarlane on Tuesday afternoon. "We had a recovery session yesterday. It's seeing how they show up today [Tuesday] and look and feel in training before we know the exact definitive answer to that, but Cole is ready to go."

Newly-appointed head coach Liam Rosenior is set to watch from the stands at Craven Cottage, with the 41-year-old expected to take charge of his first game on Saturday night away at Charlton Athletic. McFarlane believes it is an "exciting time" for the club with Rosenior, who was appointed as the new Chelsea head coach on Tuesday, inheriting a really talented squad of players from Enzo Maresca.

"Firstly, there is a lot of talent," McFarlane said. "There are a lot of really talented players. Everyone speaks about the age, but I think there's a lot of players in this group that can really go on to be the best players in their positions at their age, with a little bit of development.

"We've got a lot of top talent and good characters. You can't do what those lads have done this season, you can't do what those lads have done second half against Manchester City, with everything against them, if you don't have a certain type of character in the group. I think he's got great characters to work with — really easy characters to work with — and it will be the same for Liam. So a really exciting time."
