New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to discontinue the mandatory Know Your Vehicle (KYV) process for issuing FASTags for new cars jeeps and vans from February 1 2026. The aim is to enhance public convenience and eliminate the hassles faced by highway users after FASTag activation. NHAI said this change will bring relief to millions of ordinary road users.
KYV No Longer Mandatory For Already Issued Car FASTags
Previously they faced inconvenience and delays due to the vehicle identification (KYV) process after FASTag activation even if they possessed all valid vehicle documents. The KYV process will now no longer be mandatory for already issued car FASTags. NHAI said that KYV will only be required in cases where there are complaints of incorrect FASTag issuance or any kind of misuse.
Verification Process
If no complaints are received KYV will not be required for already issued car FASTags. NHAI said that it has also strengthened the verification process by banks before FASTag activation and has now made it mandatory to verify based on vehicle data as per statutory requirements for FASTag activation.
