It is noteworthy that the 50th meeting of Pragati (PRAGATI) organized under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given new momentum not only at the national level but also to the development journey of Chhattisgarh. Pragati is an ICT based platform developed for proactive governance and time bound implementation, which has made the process of monitoring and resolution of projects more effective. Projects worth more than Rs 85 lakh crore have been accelerated through the Pragati platform in the last decade. This has resulted in timely progress in many works to infrastructure, energy, railways, roads, coal and other sectors across the country. These projects also include many important projects to Chhattisgarh.

The modernization and expansion work of Bhilai Steel Plant was specifically mentioned in the meeting. This project was approved in the year 2007. Regular reviews at progress meetings and inter-agency coordination gave new impetus to the project, resulting in faster work progress and ensuring targeted progress.

Modernization of Bhilai Steel Plant has resulted in significant increase in production capacity. Along with this, Chhattisgarh’s industrial development, employment generation, expansion of supporting industries and regional economy have also received new energy. This has further strengthened the state as a major steel production center of the country.

Similarly, the Lara Super Thermal Power Project in Raigarh, approved in 2009, gained momentum under the Pragati platform due to high-level reviews, necessary guidelines given from time to time and continuous monitoring and concrete progress was recorded in its implementation.

Today Lara Super Thermal Power Project has become one of the major projects to strengthen national energy security. This project has not only increased the power generation capacity but has also further strengthened Chhattisgarh’s identity as the “Power Hub of India”. This has provided new stability to the energy system of both the state and the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi underlined that the Pragati platform has given new strength to cooperative federalism and the joint efforts of the Center and the states have increased both the pace and confidence in development work.
