These days the torture of bone-chilling cold continues in Uttar Pradesh. Icy winds and melting have made life difficult for people. The situation is such that sight of the sun has become rare and dense fog has put a brake on the speed. According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), the people of UP may have to face a double blow on the first day of the new year i.e. January 1. On one hand, fog will cause trouble, while on the other hand, there is a possibility of rain in many areas of the state.
According to the latest estimates of the Meteorological Department, a new Western Disturbance has become active in the Himalayan region. Its direct effect can be seen in the districts of western Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. There will be movement of clouds in the sky here and light drizzle may further increase the cold. If we talk about Purvanchal, the weather here will remain dry at present, but the fog is showing no sign of abating. The department has issued a red alert of ‘very dense fog’ for many districts of Purvanchal.
This effect of cold is not limited to UP only. The Meteorological Department has informed on the social media platform ‘X’ that there may be light rain or thundershowers in most parts of Delhi and NCR. Along with this, there are chances of drizzle in areas like Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat and Kaithal of Haryana. Visibility may remain very low due to bad weather and fog, hence it is advised to be careful while leaving the house.
A slight improvement in the weather is expected on the second day of the new year i.e. January 2. According to the department, the weather is likely to remain dry over most parts of western and eastern Uttar Pradesh on 2nd. However, there will not be complete relief from fog. Dense fog may prevail in the morning and night, due to which the melting cold will persist. People have been advised to make adequate arrangements to protect themselves from cold.
