Telecom provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has given good news to its customers on the first day of the New Year and happily announced the nationwide expansion of Voice over Wi-Fi (Vo Wi-Fi) service, also known as Wi-Fi Calling. This advanced service is now available to all BSNL customers in every telecom circle in the country, ensuring uninterrupted and high quality connectivity even in challenging environments.

The communications ministry issued a statement on Thursday saying the service is now available to BSNL customers in all telecom circles in the country. VO Wi-Fi lets customers send and receive voice calls and messages over the Wi-Fi network, ensuring clear and reliable connectivity in homes, offices, basements and remote locations such as areas with weak mobile signals.

VO Wi-Fi is an IMS-based service

VO Wi-Fi is an IMS-based service, which supports seamless handover between Wi-Fi and mobile networks. Calls are made using the customer’s current mobile number and phone dialer, with no third-party applications required.

No extra charges for Wi-Fi calls

This service is especially beneficial in rural and remote areas where mobile coverage is limited provided a stable Wi-Fi connectivity like BSNL Bharat Fiber or any other broadband service is available. VO also helps reduce the pressure on the Wi-Fi network. Wi-Fi is provided free of charge without any extra charges for calls.

The launch of VO Wi-Fi is an important step towards BSNL’s network modernization program and its commitment to improve connectivity across the country, especially in underserved areas.
