A former Love Island star has sparked a major backlash from fans after sharing the luxurious gift he bought for his newborn son.

Jonny Mitchell and his partner Simone Engelhardt announced the birth of their first child together in November this year after undergoing a traumatic birth.

Sharing news of the joyous arrival, reality star Jonny told fans: "Days of stress, pain and sleepless nights, complications came up and then eventually we were rushed to the hospital for an emergency C-section.

"With all the complications, stress, lack of sleep, and seeing someone you love suffering, my brain was racing to all kinds of possible outcomes, mostly not good. So I’m beyond grateful everything worked out."

Praising his girlfriend, he continued: "What a woman @engelhardtlund is. Going through four days of labour, in and out of extreme pain, undergoing surgery to get our boy here, and even now she’s making it all look easy like the Viking she is. Everything’s only now just starting to sink in and feel real! Time for the next chapter."

The post featured a carousel of images from the hospital, as well as the couple cradling their child. However, Jonny's social feed - usually packed with luxury trips and items - has remained relatively quiet since the new arrival bar a post about him buying a flashy new car.

He broke his social media silence with a fresh post shared just last night (December 29), but it appears to have now been removed following complaints from Jonny's followers.

The now-deleted video showed Jonny shopping at a luxury jewellery store to find a watch for his son. He was looking for a timepiece that would accrue in value as his son got older, and he settled on a classic looking Rolex.

He later shows the Rolex balancing on his son's tummy. Depending on the model, the watches cost on average between £5,000 to £40,000, and can even stretch into the hundreds of thousands for rarer models such as the Cosmograph Daytona.

Given the cost of the item and how young his son was, some fans said it was "his time" the newborn needed rather than flashy items, with more complaints rolling in over the display of wealth on show, resulting in the post's prompt deletion.

Jonny shot to fame on Season 3 of Love Island, arriving into the villa as a bombshell. He now markets himself as an investor, offering investing tips to followers.
