New Delhi: Despite Ashes injury, Jofra Archer was named in England’s provisional squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. The marquee event will be jointly-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 and Archer, who missed the fourth Ashes Test and is set to miss the fifth one as well has been placed in the list.
The selectors have also named Josh Tongue for the showpiece event, alongside naming the team’s squad for the T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka next month. While Archer features in the provisional World Cup squad, the fast bowler will not travel to Sri Lanka as he continues his rehabilitation with the England medical team after a left side strain sustained during the third Ashes Test match in Adelaide earlier in the month.
On the other hand, Tongue has been rewarded with his maiden T20I call-up, having been selected for the Sri Lanka tour as well as the T20 World Cup. Brydon Carse is the other player who has been named for just the Sri Lanka tour and not the T20I World Cup while the remaining players in the side have are part of both. Fearless batter Harry Brook would lead the side in the marquee event as well as Sri Lanka series.
Jamie Smith omittedMeanwhile, Jamie Smith misses out on the World Cup and the preceding tour of Sri Lanka after a difficult Ashes series, and there is no place for Jordan Cox as well.
