Lalit Modi Apologizes: Former IPL president and fugitive businessman Lalit Modi, who has been caught in controversy for the past few days due to a viral video, has now broken his silence on the matter. Lalit Modi issued an official statement through social media apologizing for his behavior and Government of India And explained his unwavering respect for the country’s judiciary.


What was the argument?


Recently a video of Lalit Modi went viral on social media. He looked very emotional and angry in the video. He made harsh comments on the Indian system and some politicians. Subsequently, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) took a stern stance and said that no absconders would be released and that the process was on to bring them back to India.




What did Lalit Modi say in his apology?


In his latest statement, Lalit Modi said he apologizes unconditionally if his comments in the recently viral video hurt anyone’s sentiments or tarnished the reputation of the government. I have great respect for the Government of India, Hon’ble Prime Minister and our legal system. He further clarified that his words in the video were not motivated by any hatred, but rather an “emotional moment”. He explained that he was under immense mental stress due to his long absence from his country and legal battles, which made his words uncontrollable.



Foreign Ministry pressure and sword of extradition


Experts believe that Lalit Modi’s soft policy may be a result of growing international pressure on the Indian government. Recently, the Indian government has intensified its efforts with Britain and other countries on the extradition of fugitives. The Ministry of External Affairs had made it clear that fugitives living a “life of luxury” would not be able to escape the strict hands of the law.


Will the government’s strategy change?


Although Lalit Modi has tendered an apology, legal experts say it will not directly affect the money laundering and financial irregularities cases against him. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) and other agencies are still committed to bring him to India and face trial.
