It's a triumphant start to 2026 for five members of the England Lionesses who've been included in the New Year's Honours list for their services to football. Joining manager Sarina Wiegman, who has been awarded an honorary damehood, are five of her players, including captain Leah Williamson.

Alongside the England and Arsenal skipper is Alex Greenwood, Georgia Stanway, Ella Toone and Keira Walsh. It was a historic 2025 for the Lionesses who captured a second European Championship triumph in a row after beating Spain on penalties in July's final.

Wiegman's squad made history on several counts, including being the first England team to win a major international trophy on foreign soil. The Lionesses also became the first team to win a single-legged Euros final having entered half-time behind, as Spain were 1-0 at the break, courtesy of Mariona Caldentey's goal. However, Alessia Russo hit back in the second half before Chloe Kelly came up trumps yet again to score the winning penalty in the shoot-out.

The Lionesses possibly had one foot in the Honours List when they captured the 2022 Euros in their extra-time victory against Germany at Wembley. Now six months after their record-breaking triumph, they'll enjoy another celebration.
