A healthy and nutritious meal is a fundamental right of every human being. But, amidst the rush of metropolitan life, the underprivileged strata of the society is often devoid of it and has been the rising concern of the every society. Addressing the same, on the 101st birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Delhi government launched the Atal Canteen Scheme, opening 45 canteens across the national capital to provide nutritious meals at just Rs 5.



As per reports, the scheme was inaugurated at an Atal canteen neat Apna Bazaar in Nehru Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, by Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood. During the inauguration, it was announced that the total number of Atal canteens in Delhi will be scaled up to 100 within the next 15-20 days. It is reported that that the canteens have been strategically located in industrial areas, JJ clusters, migrant settlements, and densely populated neighborhoods to maximize reach. As per officials, the canteens will serve lunch from 11.30 am to 2 pm and dinner from 6.30 pm to 9 pm. The standard meal measured 600 gms includes roti, dal, seasonal vegetables, rice, and pickle, delivering 700-800 calories and 20-25 gms of protein.



As per reports, the Delhi government has allocated Rs 104.24 crore for the project and each canteen is expected to serve around 1000 meals daily to over one lakh people per day.
