Cold water can cause sudden changes in blood circulation as soon as it comes in contact with the body. Due to this, the body has to adjust immediately, which can be risky for these patients.


Some people may feel dizziness, nervousness, restlessness or weakness after bathing in cold water. Sudden cold puts additional pressure on the body, which can lead to unbalanced blood pressure and blood sugar levels. The risk increases further for patients whose BP or sugar is not already under control.


According to doctors, it is safer for such patients to bathe with lukewarm water in winter. Due to this, the body gradually adjusts to the temperature and the risk of any kind of problem is reduced.


What precautions should be taken while bathing in winter?


High BP and diabetes patients should keep some important things in mind while bathing in winter-



  • Do not suddenly expose your body to cold environment before bathing.

  • If the bathroom is very cold, take some time to acclimatize your body to the weather.

  • Avoid bathing with very cold or very hot water.

  • Do not take bath if you are weak, tired or on an empty stomach.

  • If you feel dizzy, nervous or have difficulty breathing while bathing, stop bathing immediately.

  • Check blood pressure and blood sugar daily.

  • Take medicines on time and follow the doctor’s advice.

  • Eat a balanced diet and drink adequate amount of water.
