Virat Kohli made a memorable return to the Vijay Hazare Trophy after 15 years, helping Delhi start their campaign strongly in Bengaluru. The batting star was at his best, scoring a fine century against Andhra Pradesh and a quick half-century against Gujarat at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 2.
In the match against Andhra, Kohli smashed 131 runs off 101 balls while chasing a target of 299, leading Delhi to a solid win. He followed it up with 77 runs off 61 balls against Gujarat, helping his team pull off a thrilling seven-run victory.
Kohli’s short but impressive VHT run came to an end after being dismissed by a brilliant delivery from Gujarat’s left-arm spinner Vishal Jayswal. Kohli stepped out of his crease to play the ball, but it turned sharply away. He missed his shot, and wicketkeeper Urvil Patel completed the dismissal.
Jayswal finished the match with strong bowling figures of 4 wickets for 42 runs. His wickets included Kohli, Delhi captain Rishabh Pant (70), Arpit Rana (10), and Nitish Rana (12).
After the game, Jayswal shared posts on Instagram, including a photo with Kohli. He also wrote an emotional note about the moment, saying how special it felt to share the field with a player like Kohli and also take his wicket.
“From watching him dominate world cricket to sharing the same field and taking his wicket is a moment I never imagined would turn into reality. Getting the wicket of Virat Bhai is something I’ll cherish forever. Just grateful for the opportunity, the journey, and everything this beautiful game has given me,” Jayswal wrote.
Kohli left Bengaluru on Friday after playing the two matches. However, some reports suggest he may play one more VHT match for Delhi before joining India’s ODI squad for the New Zealand series in January.
Rohit Sharma also featured in the tournament recently. He scored 155 runs in Mumbai’s big win against Sikkim but was dismissed for a golden duck in the next game against Uttarakhand.
