Thiruvananthapuram. The Indian women’s team, which has won the series by winning the first three matches, will try to maintain its dominance in the fourth Women’s T20 International against Sri Lanka here on Sunday. The team led by Harmanpreet Kaur has maintained its dominance so far in this five-match series. The Sri Lankan team has not been able to give him any kind of challenge yet. India leads the series 3-0. India chased the target in the first three matches and its dominance can be gauged from the fact that it has not batted more than 14.4 overs in any of the matches, has not lost more than three wickets, and has not faced a target of more than 129 runs. The credit for this spectacular success mainly goes to the Indian bowlers.
Experienced spinner Deepti Sharma has taken four wickets in two matches while Renuka Singh took four wickets in the same match at the Greenfield Stadium on Friday. The toss may also have played a bit of a role as Harmanpreet won the toss on all three occasions and decided to field first. This gave their bowlers an opportunity to bowl in conditions with less dew. Indian bowlers have taken full advantage of this opportunity and till now have not allowed any Sri Lankan batsman to cross the 40-run mark. The Indian is trying different combinations in the series. Arundhati Reddy played the first two matches, while Renuka replaced the fast bowler in the next match.
“We are trying different combinations keeping in mind the 2026 T20 World Cup,” Renuka told reporters after the end of the third match. After recently winning the ODI World Cup, we want to continue our great performance and maintain the standards we have set for ourselves. Indian batsmen also supported the bowlers well. Shefali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues have maintained their excellent form by scoring half-centuries.
However, star batsman Smriti Mandhana has not been in her full form yet. He has scored 40 runs in three matches at an average of 13.33 and a strike rate of less than 100. Left-handed batsman Mandhana will be eager to play big innings. It also remains to be seen whether India will give a chance to young batsman Gunalan Kamalini and experienced Harleen Deol in this match. India has so far given chances to all the remaining 13 members of the team. The Sri Lankan batsmen, led by experienced Chamari Atapattu, have failed miserably in the series.
Apart from Atapattu, their team also has talented players like Hasini Perera, Kavisha Dilhari and Harshitha Samarawickrama but none of them have been able to perform well so far. If Sri Lanka has to present a challenge to India then its batsmen will have to perform well.
