Patna. The state government has taken an important decision towards making education equal and accessible in Bihar. Now children from economically weaker and disadvantaged groups will get the facility of free enrollment and education in private schools. This decision is expected to provide great relief to those families who were not able to provide better education to their children due to lack of resources.

According to the instructions issued by the Director of Primary Education, this system is being implemented under the Right to Education Act (RTE), 2009. Under this, 25 percent of the total seats in first class in recognized private schools will be reserved for children from weaker sections and disadvantaged groups. The entire education expense of these children will be reimbursed by the state government to the respective schools.

Online enrollment will be done through Gyandeep portal

To make the nomination process transparent and easy, the government has made it completely online. Registration of children for the academic session 2026–27 will be done through the Gyandeep portal.

Online registration of students will take place from January 2 to January 31.

Verification of applications registered between January 3 and February 2 will be done.

Schools will be allotted to eligible students on 6th February.

After this, the nomination process will be completed from 7th February to 21st February.

This entire process will be monitored by the District Education Officer and District Program Officer, so that there are no irregularities at any level.

Steps towards equal opportunity in education

The government believes that with this initiative, children from weaker sections of the society will also be able to get better educational facilities like private schools. This will not only improve the level of education but will also promote social equality.

Amount received by State Appellate Authority

A sum of over Rs 2.40 crore has recently been released to the State Appellate Authority constituted under the Education Department. Most of this is for the salary item of officers and employees, while the remaining amount is given as non-salary assistance. This will help in resolving education matters and strengthening the system.
