How does the Google Key ELS service work?

The search giant has said that it has activated the ELS feature for Android smartphones in India. This built-in emergency service will help Android users to send location via call or SMS to seek help from emergency service providers like police, medical staff and firefighters. Google says that ELS on Android collects data from the device’s GPS, Wi-Fi and cellular networks to determine a user’s exact location, and claims that it can locate a person with an accuracy of up to 50 meters. The ELS feature requires local wireless and emergency infrastructure operators to activate support for it. Uttar Pradesh has become the first state in India to do so. Due to which this service has been fully activated for the Android devices here. State Police has integrated ELS support with Emergency Number 112 with Pert Telecom Solutions. This is a free service. This service will track their location only when the user dials 112 from the Android phone.

ELS is powered by Google’s machine learning-based Android fused location provider. Google has also stated that this feature is only available to emergency service providers and that ELS never collects or shares precise location data with the company. Hence, the location data is sent directly to the concerned authorities.
