New Delhi: After being dropped from the T20 World Cup 2026 squad, star Indian batter and two-format captain Shubman Gill has starting his training in Mohali. On Thursday, December 25, videos and images from Gill’s training session at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium went viral on social media.

On last Saturday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squads for the home white-ball series against New Zealand and the T20 World Cup 2026, with Gill’s name missing from it. Though the Punjab batter will feature in the three ODI matches against Kiwis starting January 11 as he is the captain, he has been axed from the T20I games and the showpiece event.

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old has showcased his commitment towards representing the Punjab state team in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, which started on Wednesday. Gill was part of the squad for the side but did not feature in the first match. He is expected to feature in the next few games ahead of the Kiwi ODI matches.

Notably, Gill was dropped from India’s squad for New Zealand T20Is as well as the T20 World Cup 2026 following his lean patch in the format. The right-handed batter was unable to score runs in the format and failed to showcase any courage in the five-match T20I series against South Africa following which he was axed from the shortest format.

Though India were clinical in the series winning it 3-1 but Gill failed to contribute in all the games which led to his omission. During the sidelines of the squad announcement last week, BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that he has been dropped just because he fell short of runs recently but he remains to be a class player.
