The ten tourist attractions you should avoid in 2026 have been revealed. There are almost too many famous tourist attractions around the world to name, and some of them are a bit of a let-down. When you are planning your 2026 trips, think about which tourist attractions are really worth visiting, and which ones might let you down and make you wonder if the trip was even worth it at all.

The travel team at The Telegraph listed the 10 'naff' tourist attractions in Europe that people should skip to avoid being disappointed. Among them are two attractions in the UK, as well as popular ones in Europe that many Brits may have already experienced for themselves. And the top spot was taken by an attraction in a country that is visited by huge numbers of travellers every year.

The number one tourist attraction to avoid in 2026, according to The Telegraph, is Juliet's balcony in Verona. The publication notes that Skaespeare never actually went to Verona, and the balcony that has been coined the Juliet balcony doesn't really have any connection to the story of Romeo and Juliet.

The tourist attraction remains popular, though, and it was reported last week that visitors must now pay €12 to visit it due to huge crowds. It's also worth noting that the balcony wasn't even added to the building until the 1930s, adding to the belief that this tourist attraction is a mere cash-grab.

Second on the list is located in the UK, as Leicester Square in London was named as one of the tourist attractions people should avoid. Leicester Square is famously crowded, and it is full of fast-food chains and tourist attractions you find in many other cities, such as the M&M store.

The other UK attractions to make the list was John O'Groats, a village in Scotland that is popular with visitors from abroad. "The entire concept of John O'Groats is a lie," the publication says.

"It is not, and never has been, the most northerly point on the British mainland. That accolade goes to Dunnet Head a few miles along the road."

The top ten most disappointing tourist attractions to avoid in 2026 are:

  • Juliet's Balcony, Verona

  • Leicester Square, London

  • The Blue Lagoon, Iceland

  • The Blarney Stone, Ireland

  • The Reeperbahn, Hamburg

  • Manneken Pis, Brussels

  • The Mona Lisa, Paris

  • A Venice gondola ride

  • The Little Mermaid, Copenhagen

  • John O'Groats, Scotland

  • Just beside the UK is the Blarney Stone in Ireland. Huge queues of people queue up here to kiss this famous stone but reviewers have called it a waste of time and have often urged others to avoid the crowds.

Meanwhile, the Mona Lisa in Paris has been slated for the crowds of people gathering to view this rather small painting. The Blue Lagoon in Iceland has also been called overcrowded by some reviewers.

When it comes to The Little Mermaid in Copenhagen, people have slated this for not being much to look at, and being far away from everything else in the Danish capital.
