On December 24, 2025, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma successfully returned to the Vijay Hazare Trophy, scoring hundreds in their first group games. Their performances took place on the first day of the 2025–2026 season, after the BCCI’s order for senior players to play domestic cricket.
Rohit played his first List A domestic match since 2018 and led Mumbai in a chase of 237 against Sikkim at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. He scored an unbeaten 155 off 94 balls, guiding Mumbai to an eight-wicket win with 19.3 overs remaining. The hundred came off 62 balls, making it the fastest century of his List A career. This was Rohit’s 37th List A century, his first for Mumbai since 2008, and his first 150-plus List A score since his 159 against the West Indies in 2019.
Kohli featured for Delhi against Andhra Pradesh at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, playing his first VHT match since 2010. Chasing 299, he scored a century off 84 balls and anchored the innings with two major partnerships. He added 113 runs with opener Priyansh Arya and an unbeaten 140-run stand with Nitish Rana. Kohli’s innings included 12 fours and three sixes.
During this knock, Kohli became the fastest batter to reach 16,000 runs in men’s List A cricket. He achieved the milestone in 330 innings, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar, who had reached the mark in 391 innings.

Apart from Kohli and Tendulkar, the other batters fastest to 16,000 List A runs are Gordon Greenidge, Ricky Ponting, Graham Gooch, and Viv Richards.
Rohit, representing Mumbai against Sikkim in Jaipur, scored 155 off 94 balls, reaching his century in 62 balls. With this innings, he equaled David Warner’s record of the most 150-plus scores in List A cricket, with nine such knocks. At 38 years and 238 days, Rohit became the second-oldest player to score a century in Vijay Hazare Trophy history. Only Bengal’s Anustup Majumdar, who scored centuries past the age of 39 in the 2023-24 season, is older. Rohit’s innings included 18 fours and nine sixes, and Mumbai won the match by 8 wickets.
Both Kohli and Rohit returned to the VHT after long gaps, with Kohli last playing in the tournament in the 2009-10 season and Rohit in 2017–18. Their performance followed strong international form, with Kohli starring in the latest ODI series against South Africa and Rohit producing big scores in Australia and against South Africa.
