Christmas Traffic Advisory in South Delhi: The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a detailed traffic advisory for South Delhi ahead of Christmas celebrations, warning commuters about temporary road closures and diversions in and around the Saket area on December 24 and December 25. These measures are being implemented to manage the expected surge in public movement, especially during evening hours, as shoppers and visitors gather near major malls and public spaces. The restrictions will come into force daily from 2 PM onward and are likely to impact both private and public transport users.
According to the advisory released by the Delhi Traffic Police, traffic diversions will be enforced near popular commercial hubs such as Select Citywalk Mall, DLF Avenue Mall, and MGF Metropolitan Mall. These locations typically experience heavy footfall during festivals, and Christmas is expected to draw larger crowds than usual. As a result, vehicular movement around these zones will be closely regulated to ensure public safety and smooth pedestrian access.
The traffic restrictions are expected to significantly affect movement on Press Enclave Road along with several internal roads in Saket and nearby Pushp Vihar. Commuters using these routes during the restricted hours may face delays due to barricades and redirected traffic flow. Authorities have advised motorists to avoid unnecessary travel through these areas during peak evening hours.
To effectively manage traffic, diversions will be implemented at multiple strategic intersections. These include the Sheikh Sarai traffic light on Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, the Asian Market traffic signal on Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, and the PTS Malviya Nagar traffic light on Sri Aurobindo Marg. Traffic personnel will be deployed at these points to guide commuters and prevent congestion.
In addition to main road restrictions, all connecting roads between Sheikh Sarai and Hauz Rani will remain closed during the restricted hours on both days. This step has been taken to limit through traffic entering the high-density Saket zone. Commuters who frequently use these internal connectors are advised to plan alternative paths in advance.
The advisory also specifies that heavy commercial vehicles and Delhi Transport Corporation buses will not be allowed on either carriageway of Press Enclave Road during the restriction period. This measure aims to reduce road load and improve traffic flow for smaller vehicles and emergency services.
To minimize inconvenience, the traffic police have suggested several alternative routes. Travelers moving from Chirag Delhi towards Qutub Minar can take the route via Khanpur T-point, Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, and Lado Sarai T-point. Similarly, commuters heading from the IIT flyover to Sangam Vihar or Sainik Farms are advised to use the TB Hospital Red Light, Lado Sarai Red Light, MB Road, Chirag Delhi, and Khanpur Red Light corridor.
Authorities have strongly urged commuters to plan their journeys in advance, stay updated with real-time traffic information, and strictly follow on-ground instructions. Using navigation apps, avoiding peak hours, and opting for public transport where possible can help reduce stress and delays during the festive period.
With proper planning and cooperation from the public, these temporary traffic measures are expected to ensure a safer and more organized Christmas experience in South Delhi.
