The Yogi government has given great priority to medical education and training in the supplementary budget presented for the financial year 2025-26. A total amount of Rs 423.80 crore has been allocated for the purpose of strengthening the medical infrastructure in the state, establishing new medical colleges, expanding super specialty services and enhancing the quality of health services. This budget allocation is being considered an important step towards strengthening the health system of the state.


In the supplementary budget, the Yogi government has given additional funds to the major medical institutions of the state for salary grant, non-salary grant, professional and special services and various items. Nehru Institute of Ophthalmology and Research, Sitapur has been given an additional budget of Rs 1.74 crore for salary grant. Cancer Institute Lucknow has been given an additional budget of Rs 10 crore for various items. The government has also had special focus on the major medical institutions of Lucknow. An additional requirement of Rs 120 crore for Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), Lucknow, under separate proposals for various items, has been included in the budget.


Apart from this, Rs 1 crore has been given to the Center of Biomedical Research, Lucknow for salary grant. An additional amount of Rs 20 crore has also been approved for salary grant to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, Gomtinagar. At the same time, Rs 25 crore has been given to King George Medical University (KGMU) for salary grant.


Yogi government has also paid attention to the treatment of serious and long-term diseases. An additional provision of Rs 10 crore has been made for the purchase of medicines and chemicals under the free medical facility for hemophilia, which is expected to provide relief to thousands of patients. A large amount of money has also been allocated to government medical colleges located in various districts of the state. Government Medical College, Azamgarh has been given Rs 50 lakh for professional and special services, Banda Medical College has been given Rs 2.18 crore, Rural Institute of Medical Sciences, Saifai (Etawah) has been given Rs 73.09 lakh for non-salary grant. Medical College, Agra has got a budget of Rs 9.5 crore, Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Smarak Medical College, Kanpur has got Rs 8.75 crore and Medical College, Prayagraj has got an additional requirement of Rs 6 crore.


In this sequence, Rs 10.65 crore has been given to Medical College, Meerut, Rs 3.85 crore has been given to Jhansi, Rs 5.07 crore has been given to Gorakhpur. An additional provision of Rs 5 lakh has been made for professional and special services for the Cardiological Institute established in Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Smarak Medical College, Kanpur. Nursing colleges established for degree courses have also been given Rs 8.97 lakh. Among other medical colleges, Etah has been given Rs 2 crore for salary grant, Hardoi Rs 7.5 crore for non-salary grant, Pratapgarh Rs 15 crore, Fatehpur Rs 5.5 crore, Siddharthnagar Rs 15.5 crore, Deoria Rs 6 crore, Ghazipur Rs 15.5 crore and Mirzapur Rs 5.5 crore for non-salary grant.


Yogi government has made a provision of Rs 2 crore for salary grant for the establishment of Super Specialty Children’s Hospital and Post Graduate Educational Institute in Noida and Rs 7 crore for the establishment of Medical University in Greater Noida. Medical colleges of Badaun, Firozabad, Basti, Ayodhya, Bahraich and Shahjahanpur have also been given additional funds worth crores of rupees for various items.


Under Phase-Three, a provision of Rs 45 crore has been made for the operation of autonomous state medical colleges. Along with this, JK Institute of Radiology and Cancer Research, Kanpur has also been given additional funds for special services. A token provision of state share has been made for the establishment of new autonomous state medical colleges in many districts of the state like Etah, Hardoi, Pratapgarh, Fatehpur, Siddharthnagar, Deoria, Ghazipur, Mirzapur and other districts.
