Epstein files: DOJ restores Trump image after backlash

The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) has restored an image of former President Donald Trump from the Jeffrey Epstein files.

The photo, which was initially removed from public view, shows Trump with a group of women and another with his wife, Melania, Epstein, and Ghislaine Maxwell.

On X, the DOJ stated that it had temporarily taken down the image for review after it was flagged by the Southern District of New York for potential victim protection concerns.

Investigation outcome

The DOJ claimed that after a thorough review, it found no evidence that any Epstein victims were depicted in the photograph.

The department then decided to restore the image without any alterations or redactions.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche clarified to NBC that the decision to remove the photo was not related to Trump himself but was taken after concerns were raised about women in it.

Release controversy

The release of the Epstein files has drawn criticism from both sides of the political aisle. The DOJ released only a fraction of documents and images, missing a deadline set by the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

This act mandated full disclosure of all related materials by a specific date. The incomplete release has led to accusations from Republican Thomas Massie, who has suggested the possibility of holding Attorney General Pam Bondi in contempt for noncompliance with congressional directives.

Several Epstein victims have also reportedly expressed concerns over not being notified about the contents of the released files. They argued that this lack of communication could potentially put them in danger.

Earlier, at least 16 files released in the batch of Jeffrey Epstein documents by the DoJ were reportedly removed from the website, with the majority depicting explicit artwork, showing mail slots filled with envelopes, a tiled hallway, and a notebook page with names and apartment numbers.
