Households have been told to grab washing-up liquid to get their fridge sparkling clean before the week of Christmas. The festive season is in full swing, and Brits are gearing up for plenty of cooking and hosting next week. Before that, households will be busy cleaning, getting their homes spick and span before people come over for Christmas dinner and drinks.

One of the big jobs you need to get done is cleaning out the fridge before you store all of your delicious Christmas food in there, such as your turkey and sides. Merry Maids has provided a list of the cleaning jobs that households should aim to get done before Christmas arrives. The fridge is important because you'll be storing more food in there than usual. While it seems like a mammoth task at times, cleaning the fridge is way easier than it might first seem. The experts have shared their go-to method for cleaning out the fridge in time for Christmas.

"You'll probably have to put LOADS of food in your fridge and freezer, so it's time for a clear-out," Merry Maids says. And to do this, all you need is warm water, a sponge, and some washing-up liquid.

To start, remove all food from your fridge to make sure it's completely clear for cleaning. Soak all the drawers and shelves with washing-up liquid and use warm water and washing-up liquid to wipe the interior walls of the fridge.

Then, you simply dry the inside of your fridge with a kitchen roll. Make sure the shelves and drawers are dry before you place them back into the fridge.

"A clean and less cluttered fridge will allow space for all pigs in blankets, wine and pudding," the experts added.

According to consumer experts at Which?, you should aim to clean your fridge like this every three to four months. They advise: "When you decide it's time for a deep clean, try to time it for when you have as little food in the fridge as possible.

"The day before your scheduled big shop would be ideal. It will mean less work emptying the fridge, and you won't have to find space to put your food while you're cleaning."
