Nestled in the English countryside, there's one small village that has a quaint and cosy feel. On the edge of the Peak District, this adorable place is just 28 minutes from Sheffield, making it an easy destination to reach.

Hathersage is known for its scenic set-up in the midst of the vast surrounding peaks. Known as the "outdoor hub" of the Peak District, it has rich historical, industrial and literary associations. The village is located in the Hope Valley which is brimming with character and has a great selection of shops, pubs, restaurants and places to stay.

One must-visit spot from Hathersage is Stanage Edge - a high point where you'll be able to see for miles.

A visitor on TripAdvisor said: "What a fabulous place to be! Amazing views of the beautiful surrounding hills and valleys of the Peak District.

"Various choices of routes to the top of Stannage Edge are available, but once you're at the top, the view simply takes your breath away.

"Just have to make sure you're prepared for any weather no matter what the forecast may be - things can quickly change. Also suitable walking boots/shoes and clothing are a must. All are well worth it though."

Hathersage is famous for local literary links, it inspired author Charlotte Bronte when writing Jane Eyre, and nearby North Lees Hall was visited several times by the author in 1845, becoming the main inspiration for Thornfield Hall, reports say.

The village is home to one of the UK's few outdoor swimming pools, which opened in the 1930s.

The heated 100ft pool is open all year and from its water you will be able to see views of Stanage Edge, Hathersage Church and the surrounding hills.
