Christmas shoppers yet to bag the perfect present for a family member or Secret Santa can't go wrong with a beauty gift set. With many hauls costing quite the pretty penny, however, those on a budget could look to the OK! Beauty Box Skin Therapy Skincare Cracker.
Costing £29.99, its contents are worth over £100 and include five glorious, luxury beauty items from eye creams to cleaners to treatments, with one of them worth over £13 more than the entire cracker itself.
As a bit of a skincare fan myself (albeit one that has sensitive skin), I was pleased to get my hands on the OK! Beauty Box Skin Therapy Skincare Cracker to see if it was worth the money. And I must admit, it's a real treat that makes me want to have a self-care session every day.
First and foremost, if gifting this it's a fab looking pressie that requires no extra wrapping. As the name suggests, the skincare products come neatly tucked into a white and gold cracker with makeup and skincare silhouettes decorating it.
The items inside are easy to access too, as it doesn't need to be pulled to reveal the contents - the ends twist open.
Protected by shredded tissue paper - in a festive red hue - the products aren't the easiest to get out, but tipping them onto a soft surface should do the trick.
For those seeing a cheaper alternative, ASOS has this Self Care Staples Stocking Filler on sale for £8.40, reduced from £12. There are three products inside: Philip Kingsley's Elasticizer conditioning hair treatment, the Aveeno Skin Relief Body Oil Spray and Patchology FlashPatch Illuminating Eye Gels.
When trying out the OK! Skincare Cracker, it was nice to see that there were two full-sized goodies inside - the Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Scrub Extreme (£14.95) and Canopy Retinal Ritual Eye Cream (£43).
The 'extreme version' of Nip + Fab's bestselling Glycolic Scrub contains 6% glycolic acid, which claims to deliver smoother, brighter, clearer skin after just one use. While it did leave my complexion smooth and brighter, the skin didn't seem clearer skin after one use. It's recommended for use two to three times a week at night and contains 1% salicylic acid which 'flushes out blackhead-causing dead skin, oil, and dirt'.
As for the Canopy eye cream, it's again only recommended for use one or two times weekly and I've had it less than a week. As a result I've not seen much transformation around my eye area. But with the brand promising a reduction in puffiness and brighten dark circles, as well as smoothing signs of aging - thanks to the safflower oil, vitamin E, arnica, mushroom extracts, green tea inclusions - I'm optimistic it'll help my eye bags and delicate crows feet.
The Bioderma Sensibio Foaming Gel Face Wash, while a travel-friendly version, is a pretty decent size and only requires a small pea-sized amount to work on the whole face. It left my skin feeling squeaky clean without stripping it moisture and, most importantly, didn't cause irritation. It transforms from a gel to a creamy lather and washes off easily.
While I usually opt for more of a cleansing balm, like the Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm (£41, LookFantastic), Bioderma's face wash could be a good one to take on holidays or trips as a travel option.
For those days when a de-stressing bath is needed, the Aromatherapy Associates Forest Therapy Bath & Shower Oil is lovely. Firstly, it smells divine and gave me a spa-like experience with its citrussy and earthy scent that instantly calms. It's quite potent, which some might find too strong, although I liked it. While I've not dripped it into a bath just yet, it leaves my skin so smooth and smelling amazing when using it in the shower.
One small downside is that the oil is thin in consistency, so it's easy to pour too much out. As a travel-sized bottle (6ml), that does run the risk of using it up quickly, annoyingly. So be careful when applying.
As for the face oil by Balance Me, its scent is more subtle but equally as luxurious. Targeting skin that's prone to redness, dryness, rosacea, and sensitivity, the formula includes anti-inflammatory rosehip, squalane to lock in moisture, arctic cloudberry to plump and hydrate cells as well as soothing rose otto.
The bottle explains that it only requires two pipette drops of the oil for application (massage into hands to warm then apply to face). While that may be so for many, personally I felt two drops didn't do the trick for my whole face and neck.
Although it did leave my skin looking glowy and hydrated, locking in moisture from my moisturiser. Having used a number of face oils before - including The Ordinary's 100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil, £9.70 at Boots, which leaves my skin brighter and bouncy, and Elemis' £57 Superfood Facial Oil, I was well versed in how to apply it.
Although first-time face oil users may appreciate more instruction on the bottle, as it does share when to apply it and whether it needs to be used before serums and moisturiser, or afterwards.
All in all, the OK! Beauty Box Skin Therapy Skincare Cracker is a lovely gift for someone with an affinity to skincare lotions and potions. And valued at over £100, it's a real treat introducing someone to beauty brands they may not have tried before.
