James Cameron ’s ‘ Avatar: Fire and Ash ’ was released in theatres on Friday. The third instalment of the franchise has received mixed reviews . The film had a strong start at the Indian box office , earning over Rs 20 crore on its opening day , according to early estimates.
As per the Sacnilk, the Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña starrer collected over Rs 20 crore on December 19th in India. The movie is facing stiff competition with the Adtiya Dhar directorial, Ranveer Singh starrer ‘ Dhurandhar ’. The franchise’s second part, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ had a similar box office opening in the country, it made over Rs 21.3 crore according to the trade analyst.
Occupancy rateSpeaking of the film’s occupancy, the movie had a strong turnout in English (IMAX 3D) theatres. Yesterday, it registered an overall occupancy of 69.68%. The morning shows saw occupancy of 53.74%. The numbers later picked up in the afternoon with 67.19%. Evening shows then peaked with 85.42% and the night shows completed the day with 72.35%.
In English 3D theatres, the film had a moderate start with an overall occupancy of 31.53 per cent. The Hindi 3D version recorded an overall occupancy of 27.55 per cent. In the Telugu 3D version, ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ performed better with an overall occupancy of 53.48 per cent. The Tamil 3D version saw an overall occupancy of 36.33 per cent. In Kannada 3D theatres, the film recorded an overall occupancy of 31.88 per cent. The Malayalam 3D version had an overall occupancy of 27.33 per cent.
About ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’In the third instalment, Jake Sully and Neytiri lead their family against a new threat, the antagonistic Ash People, a fiery Na'vi tribe living near volcanoes.
The film also stars Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Kate Winslet, and newcomer Oona Chaplin.
