Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has confirmed that Mohamed Salahhas apologised to his Liverpool teammates for his poorly timed outburst earlier this month.

Arne Slot's side had been on a torrid run of form, which included heavy defeats at Anfield against Nottingham Forest and PSV Eindhoven. As a result, the Dutch coach opted to make significant changes to his starting line-up, which included leaving last season's Golden Boot winner on the bench.

The Egyptian started three consecutive Premier League games on the bench against West Ham, Sunderland and Leeds United. He came on in just one of those matches, but gave a shock interview to reporters in the mixed zone after the last-gasp draw away at Elland Road on December 6, having not been called upon by Slot.

In a chat with reporters that lasted several minutes, Salah revealed that his relationship with Slot had become non-existent, and he even hinted at a potential exit in the January window. He admitted that he felt he had been thrown under the bus and that someone at the club no longer wanted him there.

As a result, he was left out of the travelling squad to face Inter Milan in the Champions League. After peace talks later in the week, he was recalled against Brighton and registered an assist for Hugo Ekitike's second goal in a crucial 2-0 win.

Salah has now departed to represent Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations and could be away until January 18 if his country are to reach the latter stages of the competition. While Liverpool are back on Merseyside preparing for this weekend's trip to face Tottenham, Jones has confirmed Salah apologised to his teammates prior to his departure and insisted there is no bad blood in the dressing room as a result of his outburst.

"Mo is his own man and he can say his own stuff," Jones recently revealed in aninterview with Sky Sports. "He apologised to us and was like, 'if I've affected anybody or made you feel any sort of way, I apologise'. That's the man that he is.

"I can only speak from me knowing Mo and how he is with us and how he acted on that. He was positive as well.

"He was the exact same Mo, he had a big smile on his face and everybody was exactly the same with him. I guess it's just part of wanting to be a winner and I don't think he will be the last.

"I get that there are certain ways you can go about things, but if a lad's fine to just be on the bench and he doesn't want to play and help the team, then I think that's more of an issue.

"When there's been any sort of anger from us, including myself, it's always been from a good place. In the moment, it might not have come out in the right way, but it's never been to affect the team, the staff, the manager, anybody like that."
