Samajwadi Party chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has once again launched a sharp attack on the BJP and the Election Commission over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He alleged that SIR is being used as a cover for NRC-like exercises and claimed that preparations are underway to cancel votes through a well-planned conspiracy.

Addressing the media, Akhilesh Yadav said, “This is not SIR, this is NRC. No one knows what documents they will ask for tomorrow. The Election Commission is acting in collusion with the BJP.” He alleged that people are losing their voting rights even before notices are properly delivered, calling it a deliberate attempt to deceive backward communities.

The SP chief further claimed that the Chief Minister himself has spoken about removing nearly four crore voters, which, according to him, exposes the real intention behind the exercise. “Under the pretext of SIR, votes are being cut. This entire work is being done through the Election Commission,” he said.

Akhilesh Yadav also linked the issue to broader governance failures, stating that farmers are struggling to get fertilizers and unemployed youth are still waiting for jobs. He alleged that while ordinary people face action, influential groups are being protected. Referring to the cough syrup case, he said the government is shielding those involved and questioned why bulldozer action is not being taken against them, unlike others.

Commenting on the Samajwadi Stadium, Akhilesh said it was ironic that a match could not be held there due to pollution when it was a stadium built during his government’s tenure. He also alleged that the SIT investigating certain cases includes people who would never act against the mafia.

On Sanjay Nishad’s remarks related to Nitish Kumar, Akhilesh Yadav said the issue has become a topic of global discussion. He claimed that whatever was said by the minister must have been done on the Chief Minister’s instructions.
